Coolsculpting works by inducing fat cell death through cold temperatures while simultaneously protecting the skin from temperature induced damage with a physical skin protectant. After fat cell death, your body’s own natural processes gradually clean up the cellular debris allowing your body to process it and eventually excrete it through your biliary tract.

Some people are lucky enough to only require one treatment but some require multiple. Each session is expected to yield a 20-24% in fat reduction to the treated areas. Results are permanent as the day cells are actually destroyed and not just modified in size.

The treatment is comfortable and is done while you are napping, reading or getting some work done. Each treatment consists of a suction applicator being applied to the treatment area. Each time an applicator is applied, one “cycle” is performed. Each cycle is about 35-45 minutes depending on the applicator being used. During the actual treatment, an applicator is applied to the treatment area after the physical skin protectant is applied. Suction is implemented tod allow the applicator to remain in constant contact with the skin. The cooling is then started. It is an intense cold sensation. After a few to several minutes the area goes numb. Once the cycle is complete, the applicator is removed and the treatment area is then massaged for 2 minutes. This is an exceptionally important part of your treatment. Once the massage is completed the next cycle can begin. One session is done once all cycles are performed for the designated treatment area.

After treatment most people experience numbness of the treatment area for 1-2 weeks. About 15% of patients experience a phenomenon called late onset pain which can typically be well controlled by NSAIDs such as Motrin. Late onset pain is essentially the sensation of your nerves firing as they wake back up again. The use of the newest applicators reduces, but does not eliminate, the risks of late onset pain.

After treatment we typically reassess you 1,2and 3 months after treatment. If multiple sessions were planned we schedule your second session once we feel it is appropriate.

How is this a permanent treatment? Well, many people are not aware that the majority of us have a preset number of fat cells that basically is established during adolescence. Beyond those years the number remains the same in average, healthy individuals. Beyond that stage of life weight is gained through the growing and shrinking of these fat cells NOT the loss and gain of cells. So once those cells are gone, their gone forever.
